ROBOT AND DRONE NEWS: ROBOT AS A COMPANION SERVICES PROVIDER
Did you hear of Pepper robot? It is a Japanese robot, able to display emotional responses like a human being. Created by a Japanese company named Softbank, this robot has a humanoid body. Pepper was originally envisioned as a companion robot for household settings, but now has grown to be used in several different settings globally. In Belgium, they guide patients through hospital departments. In Canada, they are used as the face greeting when you enter the bank. In Japan, they sell coffee machines and, most recently, in the UK, Pepper is being used for community engagement. Pepper is engaging with humans across the globe and people are becoming more used to the idea of robots providing them with care. Another such innovation in the area of companion robotics is Ryan. It is designed to assist aging people, especially those with Alzheimer’s. This companion robot can recognize your face, facial expressions, and voice while also being able to converse with you
